Shortage of men

Author: silly me

8-3-10.jpgThere is a shortage of men at most ballroom dances for singles. Until the last couple of generations were born, it was not considered masculine for men to dance. The only male dancers around then were the ones that just bucked the system because they loved to dance, a few because they knew they could get just about any woman in the clubs if he danced well and of course the men that really weren’t, shall we say, very masculine. But now the younger men are dancing with no fear of being considered less masculine. I really do hope all these smarter, more carefree young men know or will learn that they also need to wear special shoes for ballroom dancing. Men’s ballroom dance shoes come a variety of colors and also come in special widths. Black/white or brown/white two toned men’s ballroom dance shoes look really stylish and are available in special widths.

Red shoes

3-26-10a.jpgIn the great epic movies like Gone With The Wind, even with such a powerful story you remember the great ballroom dance scene when Rhett makes a bid to dance with Scarlett. Then of course, we have movies like the Richard Gere-Jennifer Lopez starrer Shall We Dance where a simple guy learns to dance and prepares for the dancing competition.

So many movies over the years have had dancing sequences. Look at the old movies like West Side Story and the Little Colonel with Bojangles and Shirley Temple. And who can forget Dorothy dancing her way through The Wizard of Oz with her red ballroom dance shoes? Or the dances in The Sound of Music or Mary Poppins or My Fair Lady? Later, the dances grew more erotic like Flashdance and Dirty Dancing. Why today, you even have all the animated characters doing a great jig! From The Jungle Book to the Shrek series, dance has become part and parcel of most animated movies.

It’s always been great to watch ballroom dancing. The great thing about the movies is that they have preserved the different dances, ballroom dance shoes or the different ways of doing certain dancing on celluloid so people can watch and enjoy them for years to come.

Ballroom Dancing Will Cure That Saturday Night Fever

Author: dance freak
1-15-10.jpgHaving reached my peak dating years during the ’70s, I am embarrassed to admit that not only do I remember disco, I still own several albums by such artists as the Bee Gees and Men at Work. Remember the revolving silver ball on the ceiling? The lighted dance floor? Men in white suits and gold chains trying a little too hard to look like JohnTravolta while the ladies twirled about in Quiana skirts and 3″ heels on their ballroom dance shoes? Try hard to forget. Frankly, these dancing skills are not adaptable to any music played at Cousin Leo’s wedding or the winter dance sponsored by your bowling league. You can ballroom dance to this same music and look and feel a lot better doing it.

Dancing is Art

Author: dreams of dancing

Ballroom dancing is one of the most famous forms of dancing in the modern era. 11-27-09.jpgHow can one define ballroom dancing? It is simple. You can not! Ballroom dancing is a concept of art that cannot be described by the use of specific dance steps and patterns, and neither can it be defined as just another form of dance!
For the real ballroom dance connoisseur, the true beauty in the concept of ballroom dance comes from its rich history and evolution of the various types of dances that are encompassed by the term ballroom dancing! Ballroom attire is as rich in history as is the dance itself. Flesh then black are the most poplar colors with the red ballroom dance shoes running a really close third.

Better times!

Author: dreams of dancing

How in the world did the mothers and fathers of 30 and 40 years ago make it to old age.9627-purple-sparklenet-purple-trim.JPG Most worked more than 40 hours a week and it was almost always physical work. When they got home, they actually had to cook the meals on a stove and in a oven. They had to prepare the food before they cooked it and if you were fortune enough to have a garden, you actually had to pick or “gather” the vegetables to cook them.
They rarely had free time to take any kind of lessons, but they did seem to get entertainment in the form of dancing and socializing. They would get together with family and maybe some close neighbors about once a month or less and have what they called a social dance. Not everyone danced and most all the women would fix a dish for a pot luck dinner. Those do seem like they were the good days. But now I can run home, fix a small dinner, bathe, dress in my dance clothes and put on my closed toed dance shoes and be at a dance in less than 2 hours after leaving work. I guess it is whatever we get used to in our lives. Dancing is what makes the world go around for me.

Dance forever

Author: ballrooming

Kylie Fransden has taught several seniors who dance competitively.
1651-red-sparkle-red-patent.jpg“The competitions are sort of like the Super Bowl of football,” says Mr. Fransden, a dance instructor at at a local Studio in Plano.
Like Fred Astaire dance studios most studios offers lessons.
“They all danced back in their day, and now they want to continue to do so,” Mr. Fransden says.
Every Friday night, he holds open sessions that attract twentysomethings, octogenarians and others. The men wear nice pants, and many women wear skirts or dresses and high heels, like red tango ballroom dance shoes. Evening attire isn’t necessary, Mr. Fransden says, but it adds to the fun and recalls a time when dressing up to go dancing was the norm.

Safety first

Author: dance freak

Dr. Robert K. Rosen, an internist at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas, says ballroom dancing has old1.jpgseveral health benefits for senior citizens. In particular, he says the communal nature of dancing helps keep them from becoming isolated or lonely.
“I think anything that can be done to keep them active and interested and involved is an excellent idea,” Dr. Rosen says.
“Ballroom dancing really does challenge every part of your system, from your hearing, vision, mental alertness to coordination and your cardiovascular system”.
Your coordination is better enhanced by wearing the correct ballroom dancing dance shoes. They are practically mandatory for your safety while ballroom dancing.

More classes!

Author: lovesdancing

sh.pngNow is a terrific time to learn how to ballroom dance. Television programs such as “Dancing with the Stars” have rejuvenated these dance moves making ballroom dance more popular than ever. Because of the soaring popularity, you’ll find a wider variety of ballroom dancing classes than you might have a few years ago. You’ll also have a better chance of getting your partner and friends interested in joining you. Buying ballroom dance shoes for men is as easy as buying them for women. Ballroom dance lessons are often offered through your city’s recreation department, community college, or local dance studios. In addition, franchises such as Arthur Murray have studios across the county. You can also join local dance clubs or find videos and books to help you learn the steps. No matter how you get your ballroom dancing instruction, you’re sure to make new friends as you learn how to dance. With a little determination and practice, you too can glide across the ballroom floor.

Dancing queen

Other ways to learn ballroom dance moves red.pnginclude videos, books, and the Internet. While these formats can’t take the place of an instructor who can give you valuable feedback and help you move to the beat, they can teach you the basics. You can watch videos and see how the steps look as well as listen to narrators giving you instructions.
Once you’ve found the ballroom dance classes and have begun to learn, practice is critical. Ballroom dancing isn’t something you’ll immediately excel at. You must practice the steps until they become second nature. At first, you’ll be stiff and look as if you are counting the beats and muttering “ONE two three” under your breath. With practice, you’ll soon be gliding across the dance floor in a great ballroom dress and red tango ballroom dance shoes, looking like a dance queen.

Practice shoes!

Author: lovesdancing

Local dance schools often teach ballroom dancing, (you can buypractice.png practice ballroom dance shoes while learning the dances, this will make it easier on your feet). While many dance studios cater to teaching little kids ballet and tap, you’ll often find that they also offer classes for adults. If you’re uncomfortable with the thought of a bunch of little girls running around in pink leotards, find out if they offer the adult classes during alternative hours. For example, an 8:00 p.m. ballroom dance class won’t likely be running at the same time as a “Tiny Tots” tap class.
Specialized dance schools such as Arthur Murray are located across the nation. Arthur Murray Dance Studios are one of the oldest franchises in America with a history of teaching ballroom dance for over 90 years. Many of these studios offer a free introductory lesson so you can get a feel for the program before joining.

Ballroom dance classes

Author: lovesdancing

fred.jpgEach of the popular forms of ballroom dance has its own unique history, music, and dance steps. Ballroom dance classes are a terrific way to explore each of the dances and master the steps. You can take classes that provide an overview of all of the main styles or you take ballroom dance lessons that focus on one specific dance such as the foxtrot.  To dance a great foxtrot you will need to wear ballroom dance shoes instead of street shoes. The ballroom dance shoes are made for ballroom dancing and are worn only on smooth dance floors.
If you’re wondering how to find ballroom dance lessons, it’s not difficult. Many cities offer inexpensive ballroom dancing lessons through their recreation departments as do many community colleges. These classes can be fun to take with your partner and other couples as well as on your own. You’ll have fun as you learn the moves together. Don’t worry if you’re on your own; your dance teacher will team you up with a dance partner.

Waltz 2

Author: lovesdancing

Today, the waltz looks formal and old-fashioned. However, this wasn’t always the case.dancing12.jpg This dance was risqué due to the fact that it was one of the first dances to use the closed dance position for extended periods. Church authorities banned the waltz from public ballrooms. The Viennese waltz caused even further admonishment from the church because of the immoral touching; the gentleman placing his hand on the lady’s waist. The vulgar dance appalled church and government authorities with its close body contact but dancers loved it and the waltz soon found a firm place in history.
The waltz has been around since the early 1800s and has evolved from a faster dance to one that is much slower. The faster moves were quite demanding on the average dancer so eventually composers began composing slower waltz music. The Boston waltz evolved with slower turns and longer glides. The Boston waltz fell out of favor but stimulated today’s “slow waltz.” Wearing ballroom dance shoes makes any waltz more easily accomplished and when you can find ballroom dance shoes on sale, they are really worth the price.

Waltz

Author: lovesdancing

midnight-waltz.jpgBallroom dance music such as waltzes and polkas provide the beat to which the steps follow. For example, the waltz is a form of music in the ¾ measure which means that the first musical beat of the measure is dominant with the second and third beats being lighter as in: ONE two three, ONE two three. Waltz music tends to have a slow tempo. The sound is sweet, melodic, slow, and fluid. It is usually orchestral with minimum percussions or drums. This type of ballroom music lends itself to a ballroom dance with long and flowing movements to match the tempo and melody. The waltz features continuous turns and a rise and fall. When done properly, waltzers look as if they are gliding across the dance floor. The men and women’s ballroom dance shoes should have a suede sole that is made just for the ballroom floor.

Getting Social

Author: dance freak

dance1.jpgMen and women have danced together since the Palaeolithic era (prior to 10,000B.C.). Drawings have been found on cave walls in Spain which depict male and female dancers. Dancing, too, was an integral part of fitness training for Ancient Greek soldiers, in preparation for war.

However, this was only performed by males and it, in fact, took many centuries before any form of dancing incorporating a male and female partner and a contact hold came into popular existence. Indeed, it was not until the fifteenth century that dancing really took off at formal and social functions.
Be ready for today’s dancing, for a woman or man, ballroom dance shoes are a must.

History

Author: lovesdancing

dance shoesIn spite of its historical image as a pastime for the privileged; formal competitions, sometimes referred to as DanceSport, often allow participation by less advanced dancers at various proficiency levels. Ballroom dance competitions take place worldwide at different levels.
Eligibility and “leveling up” requirements will vary greatly between countries and sometimes within. For instance, in addition to USA Dance competitions, amateur dancers in the United States often participate in competitions sanctioned by NDCA or YCN (Youth Collegiate Network), each with its own distinct culture in addition to differing definitions of level and eligibility requirements.
No matter how advanced you are as a dancer, dance shoes are a must for ballroom dancing. Clothing is very much a matter of taste and opinion, but the shoes should always be make for ballroom dancing.

Dance attire

In the early 20th century, the on-screen dance pairing of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers greatly influenced ballroom dancing in the USA. Although both actors had separate projects and careers, they are associated for their filmed dance sequences together, which included portrayals of early 20th century dancers Vernon and Irene Castle and have reached iconic status. Much of Astaire and Rogers’ work portrayed social dancing, although the performances were highly choreographed (often by Astaire or Hermes Pan), and meticulously staged and rehearsed.
dark brownBoth Astaire and Rogers wore quiet stunning dance wear on all of their films. The clothing one wears while ballroom dancing does not make one dance better, or does it? I truly think that if you are dressed the part of the dance, it will make you feel more a part of the dance, so therefore you do much better dancing. Attitude and emotion have a lot to do with how well you dance. Men wearing dark brown ballroom shoes with brown pants instead of black shoes will not only make him feel better, but also his partner.

Following and Leading

Author: lovesdancing

Today, “ballroom dancing” applies to any one of the several dances in which two individuals, a “leader” and a “follower,” dance with physical contact through their upper or lower bodies, or simply their arms depending on the particular variety of dance. Since most social dancing is unchoreographed, this contact is necessary for dancingthe leader to communicate the next dance move to the follower, and for the follower to respond to this insinuation. This stands in stark contrast with the style(s) of dance seen in clubs and other social gatherings where physical contact tends to be optional and the individuals in question can move freely without any such restraints imposed by firm physical contact or by the necessity to follow the rhythmic pattern present in the music.
Following the leader or being the leader is a lot easier when the men and ladies dance shoes are the correct type and fit. Ballroom dance shoes can be found in many styles and colors for both men and women.

mensThe term “ballroom dancing” is derived from the word ball, which in turn originates from the Latin word ballare which means “to dance”. In times past, ballroom dancing was “social dancing” for the privileged, leaving “folk dancing” for the lower classes. These boundaries have since become blurred, and it should be noted even in times long gone, many “ballroom” dances were really elevated folk dances.
So it is with the clothing worn while in the ballroom dance arena. Discount ballroom dance shoes, to the very extreme expensive shoes can be found. There is not a notable difference between the two while dancing.

History of Ballroom Dancing

Author: lovesdancing

ballroom dancingBallroom dancing originated in England in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in which dances such as the waltz, were performed in balls and parties. It was a trend among the working and middle class to go to gatherings and events in public dance halls. In the early 1920s, the Ballroom Branch of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing formed due to the boom of ballroom dancing competitions. The objective of this organization was to standardize and formalize ballroom dancing techniques, sets of steps and music to which it was danced to.

All ballroom dances, as with all forms of dance, are expressions of feelings, thoughts, and emotions. These dances may be stricter than other forms of dance and may limit the range of steps and body movement involved, but it is still one of the best expressions of love, joy and pain between two people. The dance shoe can make a big difference in how your feet feel while experiencing these expressions.
