After work, there is the maintaining of the household, it may be cooking, cleaning, or fixing things that have broken. If you have time off during the week and/or daylight hours, you are normally taking care of house, school, doctor or other business with businesses that are only open during the hours you are normally at work. In addition, having children or aging parents or other aging family members is a big part of most of our lives.
You know something that will help you to totally relax and forget about all these things for an hour or two a week is ballroom dancing. If you can go more often, that is great, but we all need something in our lives were we can turn to help us get life back into prospective at least once a week. Can anyone name all of the dances associated with ballroom dancing? I know I probably could not name quiet a few of them. I would not have a problem naming the more common dances. The waltz, rumba, foxtrot, swing, tango, and cha cha are very popular dances. Then there are the salsa, shag, merengue, samba, bolero, mambo, and paso doble to name a few. There are many dances considered to be ballroom dances. Learning them all would be very exciting and fun.

Better times!
How in the world did the mothers and fathers of 30 and 40 years ago make it to old age. Most worked more than 40 hours a week and it was almost always physical work. When they got home, they actually had to cook the meals on a stove and in a oven. They had to prepare the food before they cooked it and if you were fortune enough to have a garden, you actually had to pick or “gather” the vegetables to cook them.
They rarely had free time to take any kind of lessons, but they did seem to get entertainment in the form of dancing and socializing. They would get together with family and maybe some close neighbors about once a month or less and have what they called a social dance. Not everyone danced and most all the women would fix a dish for a pot luck dinner. Those do seem like they were the good days. But now I can run home, fix a small dinner, bathe, dress in my dance clothes and put on my closed toed dance shoes and be at a dance in less than 2 hours after leaving work. I guess it is whatever we get used to in our lives. Dancing is what makes the world go around for me.
A wonderful blessing
I think most people get depressed occasionally. I know some people never do and they just don’t know how blessed they are for their spirit. I do not get depressed nowhere near, as much as I used to. I only get depressed about once every 2 or 3 months and then it is not really a bad depression. However, before I started ballroom dancing, I was depressed pretty often. I am not saying the ballroom dancing is what got me over getting depressed. Nevertheless, having something to do with my time that involved other people was probably the cure. Also, the fact that the people that ballroom dance tend to be very complimentary and nice. I have never had any one insult me nor act rude toward me at a ballroom dance.
I have feet a little more wide than normal, so I wear wide ballroom dance shoes and dress up a little and go to a ballroom dance or a dance lesson. Either of the two will make my mood soar. It is very uplifting to go to a place, listen to music, and learn how to move to that music to show how you feel. I have never failed to be in a fantastic mood after going out to dance. Ballroom dancing is a wonderful blessing.
Let’s all dance together
I just read a story about an elephant and a dog that were inseparable friends. They did every thing together. When the dog had a spinal cord injury and had to be inside the sanctuary for 2 weeks, the elephant was outside the sanctuary continuously until the dog was well. It amazes me that animals get along so well together when it seems nature did not intend for them to, but humans can not get along when we were created to get along together.

Sunshine!
Wow, we had a very sunny day today. It seems as if it has been cloudy or rainy for a month. Of course, I should not complain. We had a terrible drought the two previous years, so it is really a blessing to get the moisture. I really wish it would snow about 6 inches and stick for a day or two. But then I probably could not put on my swing dance shoes and go ballroom dancing if we had snow here. Every thing seems to lock up in the south when it snows.
I do not miss going to a dance more than a day or two. If I do I miss it terribly. Ballroom dancing is my sane pill, so to speak. Everyone, especially men should at least give it an honest try one time. You will never know what you missed if you don’t.

It is fun to wear a different pair of dance shoes every so often. Instead of wearing the same pair over and over, I will have a gold pair, a silver pair, black leather and a few others. This makes me able to dance in many different colors and styles and keeps me on my toes, so to speak. I normally dance in 2.5 inch heels but I also have a couple of low heel ballroom dance shoes to break it up occasionally. When I really want to feel good about my dancing I will wear my red leather shoes. They make me feel like I am really dancing.
There are places to buy shoes, that won’t break the bank. If you have an average size foot, meaning not narrow nor wide, you can order them and get them to your door in about a week. It will normally take any where from 3-5 weeks for special orders though. But if you need them, they are worth the wait.

“The competitions are sort of like the Super Bowl of football,” says Mr. Fransden, a dance instructor at at a local Studio in Plano.

“They all danced back in their day, and now they want to continue to do so,” Mr. Fransden says.
Every Friday night, he holds open sessions that attract twentysomethings, octogenarians and others. The men wear nice pants, and many women wear skirts or dresses and high heels, like red tango ballroom dance shoes. Evening attire isn’t necessary, Mr. Fransden says, but it adds to the fun and recalls a time when dressing up to go dancing was the norm.
