The Marines?

Author: silly me

tango.jpgThe social ballroom dance community is like the Marines, we are looking for a few good men! ;-) Seriously, there really is a shortage of men at social dances. There are normally 10 to 20 women left at their seats when a dance is going on. There has to be a way to get more men to start ballroom dancing and to go to the social dances. When I get dressed up and put on my fantastic red dress and my red tango dance shoes, it is really a huge disappointment to go to the dance and not have anyone to dance with. The tango and the waltz are definitely my favorite dances.

Fashion on the Dance Floor

Fashion on the Dance Floor

In the world of ballroom dancing, women simply have it better than men. Just look at the fashion options available to the two genders. On the fashion front, men are practically interchangeable. They are all wearing the same suit or tux and polished lace up shoes. And by contrast, take a look at the women. They are wearing fantastically colored and ornate costumes, all of which are distinct, flashy, and fun.

The difference is also particularly apparent in women’s ballroom dance shoes. The selection of women’s shoes is almost unlimited, and each style is entirely unique and different from the others. The heel height differs, the fabrics differ, and the structure of the shoe itself is even different. If, for example, you’re looking for a t-strap four inch stiletto heel in red satin with an open toe, you could very likely find that exact shoe. Men, on the other hand, are stuck with their loafers.

Contentment

Author: dreams of dancing

contentment.jpgDo you ever feel as if you are lacking something in your life? I mean like when you do things that normally make you content no longer make you content and you are left feeling like there should be something else to do.
Well, ballroom dancing is that contentment that I was lacking for so many years. Now if I feel I need to do something, ballroom dancing always makes me content and keeps me that way. As soon as I get to the dance and put on my high heel ballroom dance shoes, the contentment sets in. It is like I am free from all aggravations and problems in life. This feeling last hours after the last dance and there is nothing that makes you more relaxed.

Feel the dance

Author: lovesdancing

mens1.pngThe main thing that says you are good dancer is not so much how your feet or body moves, but the way you feel the music as you dance. It is sort of like listening to a singer and thinking they sound good, then watching them with no feeling for the song as they sing, it then is not great singing, just good.
The feeling you have while you are dancing is what makes great dancers. I’ve seen people that never mess up a step, but they just mechanically move and do not feel the dance, to me they did not dance great. The best thing to help you feel the dance and music is wearing the correct shoes. Ballroom dance shoes comes for men and women and it is just as important for the man to wear them as the woman. Men’s ballroom dances shoes are made for the ballroom floor just as is the women’s shoes. They have extra padding for the ball of the foot and they help you to stand correctly to have the right posture for dancing. The sole is also covered with suede for the floors at dance studios and clubs.

Giving Your Dance Partner Credit

Some men are just as zealous dancers as women.  He is graceful in his pleated shirt and tight pants.  He is sensual in his open breasted top. In competitions, a glittery shirt will add to his confidence. The audience might be focusing on his lady partner but his graceful performance will not go unnoticed. A man dancer’s stellar performance comes about with lots of practice.  Also, the right kind of men’s dance shoes can spell the difference between a well applauded number and a mediocre performance.  Put on sleek, shiny patent black shoes with platform heels.  Lead your partner around the ballroom without missing a step.  The applause will tell you how an accomplished dancer you have become.

Choose the right height for you

Author: dreams of dancing

purple.pngBallroom dancing is a lot of fun and is great exercise, but you need to make sure that the shoes you wear are made for ballroom dancing. Ballroom dance shoes come in many different styles, colors and heel height.
If I am practicing a lot, I like the lower cuban heel, but for social dancing and contest, I definitely prefer the 2.5 inch to 3 inch heels. Ballroom dance shoes are designed to make you stand and dance in the correct posture. The higher the heel, the better your posture. Don’t be put off by the higher heel if the first couple of times you wear them, you are uncomfortable or the balls of your feet hurt some. It takes a little while to get used to them, but you will get used to them and then you won’t dance in less height.

Keep her intereste

Author: lovesdancing

mens.pngBallroom dancing is one of the things that can keep a romance alive. There are not many things that can get a girl interested in a man than for him to dance a smooth tango with her. Or maybe a romantic waltz.
The best way to dance that romantic dance with her is to wear men’s ballroom dance shoes. Just about all women wear ballroom dance shoes, but men need to know that their dancing will be better if they also wear shoes made just for ballroom dancing.

Exercising Can Be Fun!

Ballroom dancing is a pleasurable way of passing time while stretching the body.  Physically, the body benefits from the twirling, twisting and bending that dancing requires. Imagine the calories lost from all the turning and prancing around the hall. Mentally, the brain is exercised by efforts to remember steps and by focusing on moving in time with the music. Ballroom dancing is a social activity that builds confidence, grace and self assurance.

Most ballroom dances are Latin in origin. The most popular is the cha-cha.  Experienced dancers are also well practiced on the Tango, Mambo and the Samba.  Latin dances are often fast paced, expressive and suggestive.  The ruffled costumes alone suggest how the dance is passionate and romantic.  Latin dance shoes, characterized by strappy pumps complete the dancer’s get up.
