There are as many different versions of a dance step as there are people teaching the steps. Each
person wants to put their personal touch to the dance steps and after a while others pick it up and then you have another way to do that part.
Men and women alike should know they have wear the appropriate shoes for doing more elaborate steps. Trying to do twist and turns in shoes that are not designed to do that will cause injures. Maybe even sever injures. Ballroom dance shoes have a special sole designed to allow the dancer to do twist and turns with ease of movement and no restrictions on the feet. Just make sure both the man and woman wear ballroom dance shoes.
